For over a decade, Akron's Joshua Maxon Novak has been a key force in NEOH's DIY and noise scene. From co-founding the venerable Rubber City Noise to blood-drenched magic show-noise raves as FAANGFACE and progcore thrashing in Actual Form, Novak's work has always rewarded.

"Petroleum Jealous" represents a distinct rupture in Novak's body of work. Not only his first album under his birth name, it also sees him explore fully electronic noise, dipping into footwork and juke in equally inventive and baffling fashion. Every track is riddled with warped ROMpler sounds and twisting sequenced patterns from Novak's MC909 but is underscored by his absurdist humor and disconcerting gags. Clocking in at under twenty minutes, Petroleum Jealous does not hurtle by so much as it abruptly falls down a flight of stairs.
